Fan Content Policy

Welcome to Joey Drew Studios! We're the creators behind the Bendy franchise, from the chilling horrors of Bendy and the Ink Machine and Bendy and the Dark Revival to the fun, family-friendly adventures in our upcoming titles like Bendy's [Unannounced]. We absolutely adore the creativity and enthusiasm of our fans. You bring the inky world of Bendy, Boris, Alice, and all our characters to life in ways we could never imagine. Whether it's fan art, stories, videos, or even fan-made games, your passion keeps the Bendy universe alive and thriving.

To support our amazing community while protecting our intellectual property (including trademarks, copyrights, and all things Bendy), we've put together this Fan Content Policy. It's written in plain language to make it easy to follow, but we've included some legal notes where needed. This policy covers all Bendy-related content, including our games (Bendy and the Ink Machine, Bendy and the Dark Revival, Bendy: Lone Wolf, and any future titles), characters, cartoons, upcoming movie, and the entire franchise. If you have questions, drop us a line at fancontent@joeydrewstudios.com.

1. What is Fan Content?

Fan content means non-commercial creations made by fans, inspired by the Bendy franchise. This includes fan art, animations, fan fiction, videos (like Let's Plays or reviews), music remixes, cosplay, mods for our games, fan-made games, or other tributes. It doesn't include anything official from us or commercial products.

2. Our Guidelines for Fan Content

We want to encourage your creativity while keeping things fair and legal. Here's what you need to know:

  • Non-Commercial Use Only: Fan content must be created and shared for free. You can't sell or profit from it in any way, except for the limited monetization we allow (see below). No putting it behind paywalls, selling prints, merchandise, digital downloads, or using it for in-game currencies or subscriptions. If you're interested in commercial opportunities (like licensed merch), reach out to us at fancontent@joeydrewstudios.com. We handle those on a case-by-case basis, but we don't have an open application process.

  • Monetization Rules: We get that creators need to eat! You can monetize through ad revenue or streaming donations/subscriptions on platforms like YouTube, Twitch, X, Facebook, or similar services. This is allowed only for content like Let's Plays, streams, reviews, critiques, or roleplay videos featuring our games. This must focus on your unique commentary or experience, not just reposting our assets. No other forms of profit are allowed, including selling physical or digital goods using our branding, characters, names, or anything from the Bendy franchise. Small-scale sales at conventions (like a few fan art posters) are okay if they're clearly unofficial and not mass-produced (e.g., under 100 units), but anything that looks official or commercial needs our approval first.

  • Give Credit and Add a Disclaimer: Always credit Joey Drew Studios as the original creators (e.g., "Inspired by Joey Drew Studios' Bendy franchise"). Make it crystal clear that your content is unofficial and not endorsed by us. Use phrases like "Fan-Made" or "Unofficial Bendy Fan Content" prominently. Avoid using our logos, trademarks, or official branding in a way that suggests affiliation.

  • Respect the Brand and Tones: The Bendy franchise has two sides: the dark, horror-focused experiences (rated T-M, not for kids) and our family-friendly adventures for everyone. We encourage content that celebrates both, but please keep it appropriate. Discourage anything overly vulgar, offensive, or harmful that could damage the franchise's reputation. We won't prohibit creative expression, but for adult-oriented content, maintain a respectful tone. All fan content must comply with laws and not infringe on others' rights.

  • Use of Official Assets: You can use publicly available screenshots, clips, or elements from our games for videos, fan art, or cosplay (as long as it follows our other rules). However, for fan-made games, mods, or user-generated content in other games, you cannot use our assets at all. This includes 3D models, 2D textures/images, music, sounds, custom audio, dialogue, voices, logos, or any extracted game files. Everything must be your original creation.

    • Mods: Modding our games is cool if you've legally purchased the game(s) being modded. It's free-reign for personal use or sharing, but no distributing our unmodified assets, and mods must follow all other guidelines.

    • Fan-Made Games: These are awesome tributes, but they must be non-commercial, use only original assets (no ripping ours), and clearly indicate they're fan-made. For naming, avoid our official conventions like "Bendy and the [Title]", "Bendy: [Title]", "Bendy's [Title]", or "Bendy in [Title]" to prevent confusion. If using "Bendy" in the title, include "Fan Game" clearly in the main text and logo (e.g., "Inky Abyss Fan Game: A Bendy Tribute"). Subtitles like "(A Bendy Fan Game)" under the main title are fine, as long as it's prominent and shows it's unofficial.

  • No NFTs or Emerging Tech: Fan content can't be used in NFTs, cryptocurrency, blockchain projects, or similar tech that conflicts with our IP rights.

  • Trademarks and Legal Stuff: We hold trademarks for the Bendy franchise (game names, designs, characters, etc.), and unlike copyrights, trademarks don't have broad "fair use" exceptions. We must protect them to keep them valid, so no using them in ways that could confuse people into thinking your content is official. We're not out to be the bad guys. We love fans! But we may need to act if something risks our trademarks.

3. What You Can Do

  • Create and share fan art, cosplay, fan fiction, or videos on social media, YouTube, or Twitch.

  • Stream or record gameplay, reviews, or roleplays (and monetize as allowed).

  • Build mods for our games (if legally owned) or original fan games that celebrate the Bendy world.

  • Commission or sell limited fan art at conventions, as long as it's clearly unofficial and small-scale.

4. Reserving Rights to Fan Content

By creating and sharing fan content under this policy, for any original elements in your work that aren't derivative of our IP, you grant Joey Drew Studios a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, feature, share, or promote your content as if we created it (e.g., on our social media or website), with credit to you where possible. This helps us highlight awesome fan creations without legal hurdles. We won't do this without respecting your work, and we'll always aim to get your permission for features.

5. What Happens if Guidelines Are Broken?

We reserve the right to ask for removal of fan content that violates this policy. In cases where it harms our IP or trademarks, we may take legal steps to protect our rights. Let's keep the community positive. Most issues can be resolved with a quick chat!

6. Share Your Creations!

We engage organically with fans, especially on X (@Bendy). Tag us or use #BendyFanContent to show off your work. We might retweet or feature it. No formal submissions needed; we love discovering stuff naturally.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as our franchise grows or laws change. We'll post the new version here and note the effective date. Check back occasionally, and if changes are big, we'll announce on our site or X.
